How to file for the 5 most common ACA mandate exemptions

A large percentage of Americans without health insurance qualify for an exemption to the Affordable Care Act’s individual mandate, but filing for that exemption can be tricky. People in states that did not expand Medicaid eligibility can request an exemption on their 2014 tax forms if their income was too high to qualify for Medicaid but too low to qualify for an ACA tax credit. Filing for some other hardship exemptions is done through state or federal exchanges, while others require filing a separate form with the tax return. U.S. News & World Report (12/29)
