The Congressional Budget Office said Medicare will spend $19 billion less than previously forecast for 2012 and $169 billion less over the next 10 years, as a result of lower spending on drugs and hospital and physician services. However, Medicare spending will continue to rise as a percentage of gross domestic product, growing from 3.7% of GDP in 2013 to 4.3% in 2022, according to the CBO. Politico (Washington, D.C.)
