Older type 2 diabetes patients who took statins were 50% less likely to die of heart-related conditions and had a 53% lower risk of all-cause mortality compared with nonusers, researchers reported in BMJ Open. Statin use also was associated with a lower risk of cardiac death and all-cause mortality among those without diabetes. The observational study involved 5,152 people ages 66 to 96. DailyRx.com (8/18)
